The Neighborhood Kew Riverside is a pretty brilliant spot if you like having London on your doorstep but would rather wake up to greenery and the Thames than traffic and tower blocks. The obvious star of the show is Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, where you can easily lose a few hours wandering through beautiful gardens, enormous glasshouses and some seriously impressive plant collections. Pack a picnic, take your time and pretend you know considerably more about plants than you actually do. For something a little closer to home, head straight for the Thames Path. It runs through Kew and is perfect for a morning stroll, a run, a cycle or simply wandering along the river until you find somewhere nice for a drink. You can follow it towards Richmond in one direction or Kew Bridge and Chiswick in the other. Richmond itself is well worth exploring. Richmond Riverside is particularly lovely on a sunny afternoon, with riverside walks, pubs and restaurants, while Richmond Park gives you acres of open space, woodland and the chance to spot the famous resident deer. Closer to Kew, you’ll find independent cafés, pubs and restaurants dotted around the village, and history lovers can pay a visit to The National Archives, home to more than 1,000 years of fascinating records. Whether you fancy botanical adventures, riverside walks, cycling, a lazy pub lunch or a day exploring Richmond, there’s plenty to do without having to venture very far at all.
